Diet: Carnivore

Dromaeosaurus was the original raptor dinosaur, a small but powerful Cretaceous predator equipped with razor-sharp serrated teeth and a lethal hooked claw on each foot. This agile theropod dinosaur possessed a short, massive skull and a deep, robust mandible, giving it one of the strongest bites among small carnivorous dinosaurs. Unlike many later dromaeosaurs, Dromaeosaurus had large, straight teeth designed for crushing and tearing flesh rather than slicing, suggesting it may have been both a hunter and scavenger.

Discovered in 1914 by famous fossil hunter Barnum Brown along the Red Deer River, and officially named in 1922, Dromaeosaurus became the first identified member of the Dromaeosauridae family—the group that later included well-known raptors such as Deinonychus and Velociraptor. When first uncovered, its large foot bones and relatively big braincase led scientists to believe it was much larger than it truly was.

Its stiffened tail, reinforced by bony rods, acted as a balancing tool, while large eyes and a flexible neck gave it excellent vision and agility. This combination of speed, intelligence, and bone-crushing bite made Dromaeosaurus one of the most formidable small predatory dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous period.
