Otodus sharks exceeded the size of any modern carnivorous fish, reaching approximately one and a half times the length of the largest documented great white shark. Despite their considerable size, Otodus did not occupy the apex predator role exclusively, as they cohabited marine environments with other significant predators like Basilosaurus, an eighteen-meter-long predatory whale exhibiting features reminiscent of ancient mosasaurs. Nonetheless, Otodus was well-equipped to compete effectively with the majority of contemporaneous marine predators.
