Approximately 150–144 million years ago, Allosaurus dominated Late Jurassic landscapes as a large carnivorous theropod. Weighing around two tons, it combined agility with formidable strength.
Its long, muscular tail, accounting for half its body length, aided in balance and coordination. Strong hind legs and a robust pelvis supported active movement and predatory behavior. The skull was equipped with a rough ridge ahead of the eyes, large, laterally compressed, and recurved teeth, and a defining pair of blunt horns above the eyes. Although smaller than the hind limbs, the forelimbs remained functional and clawed, distinguishing Allosaurus from later theropods with reduced arms.
Allosaurus remains one of the most iconic and well-studied carnivorous dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, recognized for its balance of strength, speed, and distinctive cranial features.
