Elrathia Kingi Trilobite
Trilobites are extraordinary extinct marine arthropods of the class Trilobita, first appearing during the Atdabanian stage of the Early Cambrian period, roughly 521 million years ago. With hard, segmented exoskeletons, they are among the earliest complex life forms and provide some of the most visually striking fossils from Paleozoic seas.
The name “trilobite” comes from their distinct three-lobed body plan, consisting of a central axial lobe and two symmetrical pleural lobes. Their anatomy is elegantly divided into three regions:
-
Cephalon (head): Houses the eyes, antennae, and mouthparts.
-
Thorax (middle section): Made up of 2–61 articulated segments, providing both flexibility and defensive capability.
-
Pygidium (tail): Composed of fused segments forming the terminal section of the body.
These fascinating creatures thrived long before dinosaurs and remain highly prized among fossil collectors and museum curators, offering a window into the earliest marine ecosystems of our planet.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in the United States do a very professional job, unearthing and preserving these natural treasures
