Elrathia Kingi Trilobite
Trilobites (Class Trilobita) are an extinct lineage of marine arthropods that first appeared during the Atdabanian stage of the Early Cambrian, around 521 million years ago. They are among the earliest known animals to possess a mineralized exoskeleton, which significantly enhanced their fossilization potential. Trilobites went extinct well before the emergence of dinosaurs, making them key representatives of Paleozoic marine ecosystems.
The trilobite body is longitudinally divided into three lobes: a central axial lobe flanked by two pleural lobes. Morphologically, the body is further segmented into three primary regions:
-
Cephalon (head): Contains sensory organs such as eyes and antennae, as well as mouthparts.
-
Thorax (midsection): Composed of 2 to 61 articulated segments, enabling mobility and enrollment.
-
Pygidium (tail): Consists of fused segments forming the posterior section.
The combination of their three-lobed body plan and segmented exoskeleton makes trilobites one of the most recognizable and scientifically significant groups in the fossil record.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in the United States do a very professional job, unearthing and preserving these natural treasures
