Elrathia Kingi Trilobite
Imagine the oceans of the Early Cambrian period, some 521 million years ago, teeming with life—and among the earliest complex creatures were trilobites, marine arthropods with hard shells and segmented bodies. Belonging to the class Trilobita, these animals were pioneers in developing a skeleton (exoskeleton), which preserved them for millions of years, leaving a rich fossil record that continues to fascinate scientists and collectors alike.
Trilobites were named for their three-lobed structure: a central axial lobe flanked by two symmetrical pleural lobes. Their body plan is divided into three regions:
-
Cephalon: The head, containing eyes, antennae, and mouthparts.
-
Thorax: A middle section with 2 to 61 overlapping segments that allows flexibility and defensive enrollment.
-
Pygidium: The tail section with fused segments forming a solid posterior.
Thriving long before dinosaurs walked the Earth, trilobites are living windows into Paleozoic seas, representing some of the earliest complex life forms on our planet.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in the United States do a very professional job, unearthing and preserving these natural treasures
