In the river systems of the Early Cretaceous, Suchomimus prowled as one of the most specialized predatory dinosaurs of its time. Closely related to spinosaurids like Spinosaurus, this long-snouted hunter used a crocodile-like jaw packed with sharp teeth to catch fish in shallow waters. Fossils discovered in Niger reveal a predator perfectly suited to aquatic hunting.
Its teeth, often around four inches long, were conical and gently curved backward, helping grip slippery prey without letting it escape. Unlike the slicing teeth of many theropods, Suchomimus teeth were built for holding rather than tearing, highlighting its adaptation to a fish-based diet. These features make Suchomimus one of the clearest examples of dietary specialization among large carnivorous dinosaurs.
