Upper Cretaceous 96 Million Years Old

 Name: Pterosaur

Type: Carnivore

Size: 10 to 12 meters in length

Pterosaurs, from the extinct group Pterosauria, were the first vertebrates to achieve powered flight, dominating the skies during the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods (228–66 million years ago). These Mesozoic flying reptiles evolved unique adaptations that allowed them to soar, glide, and hunt with precision.

Their wings consisted of a membrane of skin, muscle, and connective tissue stretching from an elongated fourth finger to the hind limbs. Early species had long tails and toothed jaws, while later species evolved toothless beaks and shorter tails, improving flight efficiency and dietary versatility.

Pterosaurs had hollow, air-filled bones, thin bone walls, a keeled breastbone, and an enlarged brain, all specialized for flight, balance, and aerial coordination. Sizes ranged from small, agile species to giants with wingspans exceeding 10 meters.

These adaptations make pterosaurs one of the most fascinating groups of prehistoric flying reptiles, showcasing the evolutionary ingenuity of Pterosauria.
