Late Triassic, 237 to 201 million years old.

Postosuchus is an extinct rauisuchid archosaur that lived during the Late Triassic period (237–201 million years ago). As one of the largest predators of its era, Postosuchus grew to 4–5 meters long and had a strong, muscular body, powerful limbs, and a long tail, making it an agile and effective hunter.

Its skull featured large, serrated teeth, perfectly designed for tearing the flesh of prey, indicating a carnivorous diet. Postosuchus displays anatomical similarities to both crocodilians and early dinosaurs, reflecting its position as a key member of the archosaur lineage.

Fossils have been found in North America, in regions that were part of the supercontinent Pangaea, providing insight into rauisuchid evolution and the ecosystems of the Late Triassic. Postosuchus likely acted as a top predator, preying on smaller reptiles and early mammals.
