Hidden within the rocks of Western Europe are the fossilized remains of Megaloolithus, ancient dinosaur eggs laid by titanosaurs near the close of the Cretaceous period. These round eggs, about 30 centimeters wide, once protected developing embryos of massive herbivorous dinosaurs roaming prehistoric landscapes.

Scientists have noticed that some eggshells are thicker or more robust than others. This has led to theories that multiple species may have laid similar eggs, or that some dinosaurs experienced nutritional challenges affecting shell strength. Each fossil egg helps reconstruct the story of dinosaur reproduction and survival during one of Earth’s most dramatic eras.
