Name: Ankylosaurus‭ (‬Fused lizard‭)‬.

Named By: Barnum Brown‭ ‬-‭ ‬1908.

Type: Herbivore.

Size: 30 Feet Long, 6 Feet Wide, and 4 feet tall.

Time period: Maastrichtian of the Cretaceous.

The Ankylosaurus stands out as one of the largest armored dinosaurs ever found. It measured about 30 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 4 feet tall, weighing close to 4 tons. Its body was covered with numerous large, oval plates embedded in its tough, leathery skin, protecting nearly every part except its belly. Along with two rows of spikes down its back, prominent horns on its head, and a spiked, club-like tail, this armor helped defend it from top predators like T. rex, Deinonychus, and Tarbosaurus. These predators could only harm it by attacking its unprotected underbelly.

These dinosaurs were herbivores—meaning they fed on plants and trees. Since its teeth were insufficient to crush plant matter, it more than likely used its teeth to strip leaves from branches. They would then use fermentation to break down this plant material in their guts.
