Name: Carcharodontosaurus

Type: Carnivore

Size: 12 meters in length.

Carcharodontosaurus was a giant carnivorous dinosaur that dominated the landscapes of Northern Africa during the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous period. Living nearly 100 million years ago, this immense theropod belonged to the carcharodontosaurid lineage, a group of large-bodied predators that rivaled the greatest meat-eaters in Earth’s history. Comparable in size to Tyrannotitan and Sauroniops, and slightly smaller than Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus was among the largest land predators ever to exist.

This formidable hunter reached lengths of around 12 meters, stood roughly 3.5 meters tall at the hips, and weighed close to 7 tonnes. Its forelimbs, though proportionally shorter than its massive body, were longer and more heavily built than those of Tyrannosaurus rex, each ending in three strong claws used to grip and control prey. The dinosaur’s massive skull was equipped with over 60 long, blade-like teeth, some measuring up to 20 centimeters, forming a lethal cutting apparatus designed to slice through flesh with ease.

Carcharodontosaurus likely preyed upon large herbivorous dinosaurs, including juvenile sauropods and ornithopods, and reigned as an apex predator within its ecosystem. Its immense size, slicing dentition, and powerful build made it one of the most fearsome dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous, a true giant of prehistoric Africa.
