Name: Carcharodontosaurus

Type: Carnivore

Size: 12 meters in length.

Carcharodontosaurus was a towering predator that ruled the ancient landscapes of Northern Africa during the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous period. Nearly 100 million years ago, this colossal theropod moved through river plains and coastal forests as one of the most dominant carnivores the world had ever seen. As a member of the carcharodontosaurid family, it rivaled giants such as Tyrannotitan and Sauroniops, and was only slightly smaller than the legendary Giganotosaurus.

Reaching lengths of up to 12 meters, standing about 3.5 meters high at the hips, and weighing close to 7 tonnes, Carcharodontosaurus was built for power. Its massive body was balanced by strong, muscular legs and robust forelimbs that were longer than those of Tyrannosaurus rex, each ending in three sharp, gripping claws. These arms likely played a crucial role in restraining prey during violent encounters.

Its most fearsome feature was its enormous skull, armed with over 60 long, razor-edged teeth, some measuring around 20 centimeters in length. These blade-like teeth were designed to slice through flesh rather than crush bone, allowing Carcharodontosaurus to tear apart prey with devastating efficiency. Juvenile sauropods and ornithopods would have stood little chance against such a hunter.

As an apex predator, Carcharodontosaurus dominated its ecosystem, embodying raw size, strength, and lethal specialization. It remains one of the most awe-inspiring large theropod dinosaurs, a true giant that once stood at the pinnacle of Africa’s prehistoric world.
