Name: Camarasaurus
Diet: Herbivore
Size: 18 meters in length
Camarasaurus was a group of dinosaurs that lived during the Late Jurassic Period, approximately 145 to 155 million years ago. They reached about 18 meters in length and were somewhat smaller than other sauropods of that era, such as diplodocids and brachiosaurs. This massive, 25-ton herbivore was powerful, with strong legs, a sturdy neck and tail, and a rounded head. Their chisellike teeth, with sharp points, helped them chop the plants they consumed. Though Allosaurus was their most dangerous predator, adult Camarasaurus were generally too large to be attacked. They could be distinguished by their shorter necks and tails, shorter, snub-nosed skulls, and large, spoon-shaped teeth. Their nostrils were positioned in front of the eyes, unlike brachiosaurs where they are above the eyes, or diplodocids where they are at the tip of the snout.
