The term "brecciated" refers to the geological process of brecciation, which involves the fracturing of a rock into angular fragments, followed by the cementation of these fragments into a new rock. This process can occur due to various geological forces, such as tectonic activity, volcanic eruptions, or impact events, which cause the original jasper to break apart. The fragments are then naturally re-cemented, often by silica-rich solutions percolating through the rock, filling the spaces between the broken pieces and binding them together.
