Ocean Jasper is a vibrant, multicolored stone originating from Madagascar, characterized by its distinctive spherical patterns. While traditionally classified as orbicular jasper, contemporary research identifies it as chalcedony. Certain specimens feature elegant agate banding or are adorned with druzes of clear quartz, a delicate coating of minuscule crystals commonly referred to as "druzy."
Chalcedony, a versatile variety of quartz, may be unfamiliar to many, yet it serves as the foundation for numerous semi-precious gems. Banded chalcedony is known as agate, red chalcedony as carnelian, and black chalcedony as onyx. Ocean Jasper, composed primarily of chalcedony, is notable for its ability to transmit light—a property typical of chalcedony. By contrast, true jasper is generally opaque and only becomes translucent when cut extremely thin.
