Name: Torosaurus

Size: 7.5 to 9 meters long.

Torosaurus was a herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur from the Late Maastrichtian stage of the Cretaceous Period, about 68 to 66 million years ago, weighing roughly 4 to 6 tons. Fossils have been found in formations like the Hell Creek in North Dakota, the Lance Creek in Wyoming, as well as in other parts of the US and Canada, including Colorado. Known for having one of the largest skulls of any land animal, Torosaurus had an enormous neck frill extending from the back of its skull, which likely served more for display or species recognition than for protection. It differs from its close relative Triceratops by a larger, thinner frill with two large openings, a key distinguishing feature of the genus apart.
