Size: 3 to 4 meters in length.
Halisaurus is an extinct genus of marine reptiles belonging to the mosasaur family that lived during the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous period. It was a medium-sized mosasaur weighing between 200 and 350 kg and was a relatively weak swimmer. They are mid-level predators that primarily hunted fish and squid in open water. Mosasaur teeth are effective at piercing prey's skin but not as good at slicing flesh, so they swallow their prey whole. Its jaw features flexible joints that allow it to open very wide, and it has extra teeth called pterygoid teeth, which it uses to hold onto prey while opening its jaw wide enough to swallow it whole.
