Yellow Calcite is a variety of calcite, a calcium carbonate mineral with a Mohs hardness of 3. Unlike some crystalline forms, it typically occurs in a massive habit. This vibrant yellow mineral is a primary component of sedimentary rocks like limestone and metamorphic marble. While calcite is found globally, some of the finest specimens of Yellow Calcite are sourced from Mexico.

Calcite derives its name from the Greek term “chalix,” meaning lime. This mineral appears in numerous colors such as red, green, orange, yellow, blue, pink, clear, black, and white. It is one of the Earth’s most abundant minerals, forming the foundation of limestone and marble. Calcite exhibits various shapes and forms across different geological settings. Some varieties glow blue or red when exposed to UV light. Historically, calcite has been utilized in making cement and mortar, while its clear, transparent forms have been employed in gun sights and polarizing microscopes for geological study.
