Cretaceous Dinosaur Era, 100 million years ago.
Onchopristis was a massive sawfish that thrived in the oceans of the Upper Cretaceous Period, with many fossils discovered in the Sahara Desert. This remarkable creature featured a long, 2.5-meter rostrum armed with sharp, deadly barbs, earning it the name "Giant Saw." A dedicated crustacean feeder, Onchopristis used its saw-like snout to dig in shallow waters, much like modern sawfish. Fascinatingly, it migrated into freshwater rivers to breed, where the young found refuge. However, adult Onchopristis faced predators like Spinosaurus during these migrations, as shown by fossilized puncture marks and barbs embedded in spinosaur fossils—a vivid glimpse into their ancient struggle for survival.
