Septarian Dragon Stone:
Septarian is a distinctive mineral specimen occurring in limited geographic locations, including near Zion National Park in Southern Utah, Mahajanga in Madagascar, and Morocco. These nodules originated during the Cretaceous Period, approximately 50 to 70 million years ago, forming on ancient seafloor sediments. Initially accessible on the surface as they gradually weathered from the surrounding gray or tan clay hills, their extraction now necessitates mechanized digging at depths of 20 to 30 feet. Septarian nodules exhibit a wide range of morphological and chromatic variations, making each piece a notable example of mineralogical diversity.
