Name: Leptomeryx Evansi

Leptomeryx evansi is an extinct genus of small ruminants from the family Leptomerycidae that lived in North America during the Eocene to Oligocene, roughly 30 million years ago. These tiny deer stood about 30 cm at the shoulder and weighed between 5 and 15 kilograms. Fossils have been found in the Badlands of South Dakota. Leptomeryx had a slender body and a simpler digestive system than modern ruminants. It likely inhabited open forests or forest–savanna edges, feeding on soft leaves and fruits.
