Name: Leptomeryx Evansi
Diet: Herbivore
Leptomeryx evansi was a small, extinct ruminant that lived in North America roughly 30 million years ago, during the Eocene to Oligocene epochs. Part of the Leptomerycidae family, it stood about 30 cm tall at the shoulder and weighed between 5 and 15 kilograms. Fossils of this tiny deer have been discovered in the Badlands of South Dakota. Leptomeryx had a slender build and a simpler digestive system compared to modern cud-chewing ruminants. It inhabited open forests and forest–savanna edges, feeding primarily on soft leaves and fruits.
