Pachycephalosaurus is a now-extinct genus of pachycephalosaurid dinosaurs that lived during the late Cretaceous period in what is modern-day North America, approximately 68 to 65 million years ago. It reached about 5 meters (16 feet) in length and weighed roughly 370–450 kilograms. As a biped, it had powerful hind limbs and relatively underdeveloped forelimbs. The species is well-known for its large, bony dome on top of the skull, which could be up to 25 cm (10 inches) thick and provided protection for its small brain. Its short skull featured large, rounded eye sockets facing forward, indicating good eyesight and binocular vision. Likely possessing a short, thick neck, a bulky body, long hind legs, and a heavy tail—probably held rigid by ossified tendons—it stands out as the largest known dome-headed and bone-headed dinosaur.
