Triceratops represents a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaurs that emerged in the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 million years ago, with an estimated mass ranging from 5 to 9 metric tons. These robust quadrupeds are characterized by a disproportionately large skull, featuring a short, posteriorly elevated frill and three distinct horns. The two dominant horns originate above the orbital region, while a smaller nasal horn projects upward from the snout. The frill’s expanded margins are lined with numerous small spikes, augmenting its defensive morphology. This genus coexisted with apex predators such as Tyrannosaurus rex, which likely exerted predation pressure on it.
