The Spinosaurus inhabited North Africa during the Cretaceous period, approximately 100 million years ago. This theropod dinosaur is regarded as potentially the largest and longest of its lineage, reaching lengths of up to 49 feet and weighing close to 6 tons. It is currently considered the largest carnivorous dinosaur, surpassing even the Tyrannosaurus Rex in size. Notably, the Spinosaurus featured an elongated, narrow skull reminiscent of a massive crocodile, accompanied by prominent dorsal spines that likely supported a sail-like structure connected by skin. Its name, translating to "spine lizard," underscores this distinctive characteristic.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in Morocco do a very professional job of unearthing and preserving these natural treasures; however, commonly, natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
