The Spinosaurus, a theropod dinosaur from North Africa, existed during the Cretaceous period, roughly 100 million years ago. It is considered potentially the largest and longest theropod known, reaching up to 49 feet in length and weighing around 6 tons. Currently, it is recognized as the largest carnivorous dinosaur, exceeding even the Tyrannosaurus Rex in mass. Characterized by a long, narrow skull resembling an oversized crocodile, the Spinosaurus also featured extended vertebral spines that formed a sail-like structure, likely supported by skin. Its name translates literally to “spine lizard.”

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:

Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in Morocco do a very professional job of unearthing and preserving these natural treasures; however, commonly, natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
