During the Cretaceous period, approximately 100 million years ago in North Africa, the Spinosaurus emerged as one of the most powerful theropod dinosaurs known. Measuring up to 49 feet in length and weighing about 6 tons, it is widely regarded as the largest and longest of its kind, surpassing even the Tyrannosaurus Rex as the predominant carnivore. Its elongated, narrow skull resembled a giant crocodile, while the tall spines along its back formed a distinctive sail-like structure likely covered by skin. The name "Spinosaurus," meaning "spine lizard," accurately reflects its distinctive anatomy.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in Morocco do a very professional job of unearthing and preserving these natural treasures; however, commonly, natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
