Triceratops, a herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur genus, emerged during the Late Cretaceous approximately 68 million years ago, with an estimated weight between 5 and 9 metric tons. These large, quadrupedal dinosaurs are characterized by three prominent cranial horns and a robust bony frill extending posteriorly from the skull. The species possessed a disproportionately large skull, featuring a short neck frill and two substantial supraorbital horns, alongside a smaller, pointed nasal horn. The frill’s perimeter was adorned with numerous small spikes. Triceratops inhabited the same ecosystems as Tyrannosaurus rex, which likely acted as a primary predator.
