Cretaceous Age (66-145 million years ago)

Burmese Amber, also called Burmite or Kachin amber, originates from the Hukawng Valley in northern Myanmar. It is approximately 99 million years old, dating to the early part of the Cenomanian age in the Late Cretaceous period. Amber is a resin created from fossilized conifer tree sap, formed over years of sustained pressure and heat. This transparent material ranges from yellow to reddish-brown and has been used in jewelry, Egyptian burials, and healing practices. Additionally, amber is crucial in scientific research, often containing inclusions like insects, animal parts, or plants that are trapped and preserved. These preserved specimens have led to significant discoveries, such as the identification of feathers on a non-avian dinosaur dating back 145 million years and insights into gene clusters for new antibiotics.
