Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaurs that first appeared around 68 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period, weighing between 5 to 9 metric tons. These large, four-legged ceratopsians are characterized by three prominent facial horns and a bony frill at the back of their skull. Their skulls were notably large relative to their bodies, with a short, upward-raising frill at the neck and three horns—two above the eyes that were the largest, and a smaller nasal horn from the snout. They also had numerous small spikes lining the edges of the expanded bone frill at the back of the skull. Triceratops shared its environment with Tyrannosaurus Rex, which was likely a predator of this species.
