Otodus sharks were considerably larger than any carnivorous fish currently in the ocean, measuring about one and a half times the size of the largest great white shark ever recorded. However, their impressive size did not automatically make them the top predator, as they coexisted with other powerful creatures like the Basilosaurus, an 18-meter-long predatory whale that resembled an ancient mosasaur. Despite this, Otodus was likely capable of defending itself effectively against many other marine predators.
