Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaurs that first appeared during the Late Cretaceous period about 68 million years ago, weighing between 5 and 9 metric tons. These large, quadrupedal ceratopsians are characterized by three prominent horns and a bony frill at the back of their skull. The skull was notably large relative to their body, featuring a short frill that extended from the back and three horns—two large ones above the eyes and a smaller nasal horn on the snout. Along the edges of the frill, numerous small spikes added to their distinctive appearance. Triceratops coexisted with and was likely hunted by Tyrannosaurus Rex.
