Quartz Crystal, often simply called quartz, is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms arranged in a continuous network of SiO4 tetrahedra, where each oxygen atom connects two tetrahedra. This structure gives quartz its chemical formula, SiO2. It is the Earth's second most abundant mineral in the continental crust, following feldspar. Quartz manifests in many varieties and colors, including clear rock crystal, purple amethyst, yellow citrine, and pink rose quartz. Its distinctive hexagonal crystal structure and piezoelectric properties—producing an electric charge under mechanical stress—make quartz an important mineral in both nature and technology.
