Name: Triceratops

Type: Herbivore

Size: 8 to 9 meters long.

Triceratops was a giant herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68 million years ago. This quadrupedal dinosaur weighed between 5 and 9 metric tons and is famous for its three sharp horns—two long horns above its eyes and a smaller nasal horn on its snout—along with a broad, spiked bony frill at the back of its skull. These features served both for defense and display, protecting Triceratops from predators.

Triceratops had a massive skull in proportion to its body, with a short neck frill and strong, sturdy limbs that supported its heavy frame. It lived alongside apex predators like Tyrannosaurus rex, which may have hunted these herbivores, though Triceratops’ horns and frill provided formidable defense.

As one of the most recognizable ceratopsian dinosaurs, Triceratops highlights the incredible adaptations of Late Cretaceous herbivores and remains a favorite among paleontologists, fossil collectors, and dinosaur enthusiasts worldwide.
