Goniatite Ammonite
Ammonoids were marine creatures that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name derives from the distinctive "ram’s horn" shape of their shells, reminiscent of the Egyptian god Amun, who was often shown with ram’s horns. While they resemble modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are more closely related to octopi, squid, and cuttlefish. Their shells were divided into chambers by walls called septa. These septa are connected to the outer shell, forming suture patterns that help identify different ammonoid types. Early ammonoids known as Goniatites feature a simple zigzag "Goniatitic" pattern of lobes and saddles, whereas later ammonites display more complex, fern-like sutures.
