Name: Globidens

Type: Carnivore.

Size: 6 meters in length.

Globidens was a sizeable mosasaur distinguished by the most powerful bite recorded among its species, estimated at 9.7 tons. Measuring up to 6 meters in length and weighing approximately 2 tons, it resembled other mosasaurs of its era. Living between 75 and 67 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era, it possessed distinctive rounded teeth with a globe-shaped crown resting on a narrower base. These robust jaws and specialized teeth enabled Globidens to prey on heavily armored creatures such as turtles and ammonites—prey that even larger predators like Prognathodon struggled to tackle. The presence of scleral rings suggests it hunted in dim conditions, either at night, in deep waters, or both.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:

Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in Morocco do a very professional job, unearthing and preserving these natural treasures; however, commonly, natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
