Prehnite is a pale green mineral, translucent to transparent, and a member of the phyllosilicate family. First identified in 1788, it was named after Dutch military officer Colonel Hendrik von Prehn. The mineral commonly occurs with calcite and epidote and is often found in basaltic rocks.

Prehnite is known for its distinctive crystal forms, ranging from prismatic to tabular to botryoidal. Its glossy surface and soothing green color make it popular for jewelry, as well as for beads, cabochons, and artistic carvings.
