The Spinosaurus inhabited North Africa during the Cretaceous period, around 100 million years ago. This theropod dinosaur is regarded as potentially the largest and longest of its kind, reaching lengths of up to 49 feet and weighing approximately 6 tons. It is currently considered the largest known carnivorous dinosaur, surpassing even the Tyrannosaurus Rex in mass. Characterized by its elongated, narrow skull reminiscent of an oversized crocodile, the Spinosaurus also featured prominent vertebral spines that formed a sail-like structure, likely enveloped in skin. The genus name "Spinosaurus" translates to "spine lizard," aptly describing this distinctive morphology.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried underground for millions of years under immense pressure can be rough. No fossil is ever found completely intact or perfect. Most fossils require some restoration, and some are intentionally modified by humans to improve their display. Moroccan workers are very skilled at excavating and conserving these natural treasures, though natural surface cracks are often visible. These cracks are part of the fossil's natural beauty and are not flaws.
