Goniatite Ammonite
Ammonoids were fascinating marine creatures that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name reflects the distinctive "ram’s horn" spiral of their shells, inspired by the Egyptian god Amun, depicted with ram’s horns. While they resemble modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are actually more closely related to octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. Their chambered shells featured septa, whose connections to the outer shell formed unique suture patterns essential for identification. Early Goniatites display a simple zigzag "goniatitic" pattern, while later ammonites evolved more complex, fern-like sutures, highlighting their intriguing diversity.
