Triceratops was a massive herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68 million years ago. This quadrupedal dinosaur weighed between 5 and 9 metric tons and is famous for its three distinct facial horns and a bony frill extending from the back of its skull. The two long horns above the eyes were the most prominent, while the smaller nasal horn projected from its snout. The frill was edged with numerous small spikes, adding extra protection against predators.

Triceratops had a large, robust skull relative to its body and a short neck frill, making it a formidable herbivore in its ecosystem. It shared its habitat with apex predators like Tyrannosaurus rex, which likely hunted Triceratops, although its horns and frill provided powerful defense.

As one of the most iconic Late Cretaceous dinosaurs, Triceratops continues to captivate scientists and dinosaur enthusiasts, showcasing the remarkable diversity of ceratopsian dinosaurs that roamed North America.
