Early Miocene to Pliocene, 5-23 million years old

This is a real fossil.

Megalodon, which means “big tooth,” was a species of shark that lived from about 23 to 5 million years ago, spanning the Early Miocene to the end of the Pliocene. Initially classified within the Lamnidae family, it was considered closely related to the great white shark. Known as one of the largest predators in history, the megalodon sparks significant scientific interest. The earliest fossils, identified as Otodus megalodon, date back 20 million years. This gigantic shark ruled the oceans for approximately 13 million years before going extinct around 2.6 million years ago. While no complete skeleton has been found, estimates based on its teeth—which can be as long as 18 centimeters—suggest it measured between 15 and 18 meters, making it three times the length of the largest great white shark. These teeth provide vital clues about its diet and behavior.
