Cretaceous Dinosaur Era, 100 million years ago.
Onchopristis was a giant sawfish that inhabited the oceans during the Upper Cretaceous Period, with many specimens discovered in the Sahara Desert. It featured a distinctive 2.5-meter-long rostrum lined with sharp barbs, earning it the name "Giant Saw." Primarily feeding on crustaceans, it used its rostrum to dig them out from shallow waters, similar to modern sawfish. Fossil evidence indicates that Onchopristis migrated into freshwater rivers to breed, where females laid eggs in safer shallow waters. During migration, adults faced predators like Spinosaurus, which hunted them and left puncture marks on their rostrums. Some barbs were even found embedded in Spinosaurus fossils, highlighting their interactions in this ancient ecosystem.
