Prehnite is a pale green mineral, translucent to transparent, and a member of the phyllosilicate family. First identified in 1788, it was named after Dutch military officer Colonel Hendrik von Prehn. This mineral is commonly associated with calcite and epidote and is often found in basaltic rocks.
Prehnite is notable for its distinctive crystal forms, which range from prismatic to tabular to botryoidal. Its glossy surface and soothing green hue make it a popular choice for jewelry, as well as for beads, cabochons, and artistic carvings.
