Aragonite plays a crucial role in the survival of numerous Earth organisms, particularly invertebrates that utilize this mineral to form their shells and skeletal structures. The vibrant colors found in many seashells reflect the diverse hues of Aragonite and its capacity to readily crystallize at the Earth's surface. Aragonite and calcite are polymorphs—sharing an identical chemical formula but differing in crystal lattice arrangements. These minerals frequently coexist and are so alike that only specialists in geology typically differentiate between them. Although calcite is currently more stable and prevalent in modern marine environments, Aragonite was historically the dominant polymorph. Both minerals exhibit nearly indistinguishable physical characteristics.
