Name: Gorgosaurus
Type: Carnivore
Size: 8 to 9 meters long
Gorgosaurus is a genus of tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur that inhabited western North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 76.6 to 75.1 million years ago. This sizable bipedal predator measured between 8 to 9 meters in length and weighed from 2.8 to 3.4 tonnes. Notably, Gorgosaurus possessed a proportionally shorter skull compared to Albertosaurus, Daspletosaurus, and other tyrannosaurids. Its snout terminated bluntly, with nasal and parietal bones fused along the midline, consistent with other family members. The eye socket was distinctly circular, unlike the oval or keyhole shapes found in related genera. Gorgosaurus closely resembles Albertosaurus, differing primarily in subtle variations of the teeth and skull bones.
