Late Cretaceous through to the Eocene, 100 million to 50 million years ago

Known as the Saber-toothed herring, Enchodus is surprisingly closer to salmon. Its razor-sharp teeth, set in a wide-open jaw, were designed to spear slippery prey like fish and squid. While perfect for capturing, these teeth weren't made to tear off small pieces. Instead, after impaling its prey, Enchodus likely unleashed rapid, powerful jaw movements to dominate and dismantle its catch.
