Name: Brachylophosaurus
Type: Herbivore
Size: About 9 meters long.
Brachylophosaurus represents a medium-sized hadrosaurid from the Judith River Formation in Montana and the Oldman Formation in Alberta, dating to approximately 76.5 million years ago. Specimens reached lengths exceeding 9 meters and massed around 7 metric tons. This taxon is distinguished by a unique bony cranial crest forming a flat, paddle-like plate atop the skull. It exhibits markedly elongated forelimbs and a broader upper jaw beak relative to contemporaneous hadrosaurids. Morphologically, Brachylophosaurus possessed fleshy cheeks facilitating oral retention of plant material and complex dentition adapted for effective mastication—a rare adaptation among reptiles but characteristic within ornithischian clades.
