Triceratops, a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaurs, emerged in the Late Cretaceous approximately 68 million years ago, with an estimated mass between 5 and 9 metric tons. These large quadrupeds are characterized by a robust skull featuring three primary horns and a distinctive bony frill at the posterior. The skull, disproportionately large relative to the body, includes a short neck frill and two prominent supraorbital horns, alongside a smaller nasal horn. Additionally, the frill’s perimeter was lined with numerous small spikes. Triceratops inhabited regions shared with Tyrannosaurus rex, which likely posed a significant predatory threat.
