Mosasaurs were the largest lizards to have ever lived, growing up to nearly 60 feet long with skulls measuring around 6 feet. These formidable swimmers spent their entire lives in the ocean. Their elongated, robust bodies featured tails and limbs built for swimming, moving in a snake-like motion while using their finned tails for propulsion. Small, webbed feet helped them steer. They existed during the late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 96 to 65 million years ago. As carnivores, they fed on fish, sea urchins, turtles, and shellfish. Mosasaurs lived alongside dinosaurs and went extinct during the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:
Being buried beneath the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure can be tough. No fossil emerges from the ground completely intact and perfect. Most fossils have been restored in some way, while others are altered by humans simply to improve their appearance in various ways. Workers in the United States do a very professional job of uncovering and preserving these natural treasures; however, natural cracks are often visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossils and are not considered defects.
